Kavaguti/Smirnov will miss Europeans

According to Ice Network, Russian pair Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov will not skate at the European Championships in Sheffield, which begin on January 23rd. Smirnov recently had an appendectomy, and coach Tamara Moskvina did not want to take any unnecessary risks. They will be replaced by this year’s Russian silver medalists, Ksenia Stolbova/Fyodor Klimov.

Kavaguti/Smirnov did not skate at Russian nationals due to Smirnov’s leg injury. They are expected to compete at the World Championships in France in late March.
